The Government have issued a guidance document for employers which very clearly states they need to treat employees in a civil partnership in the same way as married employees.
This has very important rights for same-sex couples, for example, if a comp nay has a benefits package, like private health care, for example, which is available to the spouse of an employee, it should also be available to an employee’s registered civil partner (registrations come into being in December 2005).
